ACP Magazines Shelf Management Program

The New ACP Magazines Pocket Planner

The Pocket Planner sets out the display specifications for ACP Magazines in accordance with the ACP Magazines Newsagency Agreement.

While the new Pocket Planner is more flexible and workable for newsagents, its ultimate beneficiaries will be magazine consumers. Ensuring the needs of the consumer are met is the key to greater profitability of the magazine category in your store.

How do we know this? Firstly, the new Pocket Planner is a direct outcome of our communication with our newsagency industry partners. In addition, since the ACP Magazines Pocket Planner was first updated in November 2000, ACP Magazines has commissioned comprehensive research into consumer behaviour in newsagents. The ACP Magazines magazine consumer research project took place between August and November 2001 and was performed by Stancombe Research & Planning and D&M Research. The research activities included in-store videos, accompanied shopping visits, and telephone interviews. This is the first research of its type ever undertaken in Australia.

The principal conclusions arising from the consumer research confirmed what we, as magazine publishers and newsagents, have long suspected:

· Location, Location!: Impulse titles such as the major women’s weeklies need to be located in high traffic areas.
· Full Facings: Full cover display is the critical driver to magazines purchases.

As you will see, these and other key research findings form the foundation of the new Pocket Planner. The emphasis on effective location and display of top-selling magazines is embodied in our “5 Steps to Effective Shelf Management.” The following attachment explains the easiest way to follow the “5 Steps” and, by doing so, ensure the “right magazines are in the right place at the right time for the consumer.”

At least 50% of magazine facings in your Premium Display Space must be allocated to ACP Magazines. At a minimum, the selected magazines identified on the Pocket Planner card (see step 2 below) should be displayed in the Premium Display Space. Make up any difference by adding other ACP Magazines appropriate to your store’s area.

The minimum number of facings required for each title for your store size must be displayed for at least the Initial Display Period.

Display requirements are subject to having sufficient stock on hand and may be adjusted to suit your store by agreement with ACP Magazines, including ACP Magazines' visiting representative.
